so my neighbour gifted me his old Schwinn Moab, not knowing I had and love an existing swhwinn moab, so now 4 wheels good
I ditched the bar ends (hate those), readjusted the shift ers and brake handles to to fit, swapped the brake lines so right hand is front brake AS IT SHOULD BE, oiled and adjusted all the derailers and mechanisms, swapped in a new seat, noted some need to rebuild the shocks and adjust the head unit, then went for a first ride and it all failed before the end of the street.
pick the problem I found after a full tune and fixing of the “new” blue one

and of COURSE it needed a new inner tube. and I’m goign to put my oversized road tyres on this one for non-ofro adering type riding.
but first, a date with a tiny spanner and too much time to get the wheels trued

The right front brake is one of the things I hate the most about cycles. I haven’t gotten to the point of swapping mine though as I’m still new to wrenching on cycles.
It drives me nuts since I’ve ridden motorcycles since I was a teenager (and stopped riding bicycles then) so right as front is ingrained in my brain now.

swapping them is super simple. as the cable terminate in the same place, just swapping the cables from one handle to the other is the easiest method. and usually its designed to be adjusted by hand, so no tooled even needed.

Fair point, just haven’t decided to do it yet. I’ve been riding it more during quarantine for sure.

After watching some YouTube characters do a $500 motocross bike challenge and years of
Top Gear I’m thinking of issuing a $50 mountain bike challenge to some friends when this is all over. Buy a beater, fix as best possible then ride a couple of
black diamond trails for lulz. Even minus chain t
hat
one is probably a
bit too good though..
Fully agree on the brakes, I used to work in a bike shop in the UK and had to switch over anything that came in from the US. PITA with hydraulics as you’d often have to blee
d them when done.

yes. but it did do the big surprise

I cannot see how it couldn’t have . At least you didn’t grab the correct brake lever and endo mid-surprise.
Showed this to someone else here to utter disgust over the weekend
. Happened in reasonably cold weather so very slowly peeled open. Chain took months of hard work and ultimately neglect to reach this state.
